Weather expert’s verdict on exact date 30C Mediterranean plume will hit Britain
A weather expert has revealed exactly when a 30C Mediterranean plume will blast Britain.
Forecasters such as Netweather have said that Friday (July 19) will see temperatures soar bringing with them sunny skies.
Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at the British Weather Services, has backed these predictions, saying that high temperatures will prevail in the next few days after a disappointing start to summer.
He said: “Friday is the day, with 28C as the top mark. But as high as 30C is possible in the London area. If the forecasts are accurate, it will be the third time this year that 30C has been reached.
“It is being caused by a slack airstream from the south-southeast but it will be somewhat cooler into the weekend.”
Temperatures will be highest in the southeast, reaching up to 30C in London and Essex. It will be between 26C and 28C in the Midlands with temperatures dropping to between 22C and 25C in the north of England and the southwest of England.
It will be coldest in southwest Scotland and north Wales with highs of 15C. In the rest of Wales, Scotland and north England, it will be between 17C and 22C.
The Met Office has forecast for the weekend: “Outbreaks of rain in the west at times. Largely dry elsewhere and turning very warm or hot for many, but temperatures closer to average in the northwest.”
This Evening and Tonight:
Showers easing with clear spells developing for many, allowing some mist and fog patches to form in places. Cooler than recent nights with temperatures dropping into single figures for some.
Wednesday:
Any remaining showers across northeast Scotland soon fading with most places seeing a fine and dry day with decent amounts of sunshine. Skies clouding over from the west later.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Outbreaks of rain in the west at times. Largely dry elsewhere and turning very warm or hot for many, but temperatures closer to average in the northwest.
