UK Innovation Corridor group goes behind the scenes at Stansted Airport
A delegation from the UK Innovation Corridor got a special behind-the-scenes look at the terminal and airfield at Stansted Airport.
The corridor, between Cambridge and London, is the UK’s leading location for life sciences and knowledge-based industries, and is home to world-leading hi-tech hubs, supported by a consortium of local government, businesses, universities and colleges.
Its representatives enjoyed an exclusive tour and an update on the airport’s plans for the future.
Gareth Powell, the airport’s managing director, told them about Stansted’s record-breaking summer when 8.8 million passengers used the airport from June to August. He also updated them on the £1.1 billion transformation plans.
Mr Powell said: “We hope that they left us better informed about all the work going on here at Stansted.
“The visit was a great opportunity to showcase the significant investment we’re making to improve facilities and provide an update on our work to deliver an even greater choice of destinations for our passengers.
“The Innovation Corridor is already one of the UK’s major success stories, and improved connectivity and access will only help build on this great track record.”
Jackie Sadek, chair of the UK Innovation Corridor, said: “It was a privilege to visit London Stansted. Having a peek behind the scenes and witnessing the efficient operation was a fascinating experience.
“Our group gained a deeper understanding of the airport’s critical role in connecting people and businesses and how vital it is for the region. We are looking forward to seeing its continued success and growth.”
