This northern city has been named the best in the UK for food and drink by Which?
Last month, Which? crowned Liverpool the UK’s best city for a short break. The consumer choice company ran a survey of 4,000 Brits asking them to rate cities on factors like accommodation, food and drink, cultural sights and tourist attractions and ease of getting around.
But despite winning the overall top spot, L’pool didn’t get full marks for food and drink. In fact, only one city scored a perfect five out of five for its gastronomic offerings.
Nope, it wasn’t London. It wasn’t Edinburgh either. The UK’s best city for food and drink right now, according to Which?, is Newcastle. Which? editors pointed out a few of Newcastle’s foodie hotspots, including Ouseburn, where you’ll find Full Circle Brew Co and Brinkburn St Brewery, and Quayside, home to the Michelin-starred House of Tides.
At Time Out, we’re already well aware of the Toon’s superb culinary scene. To find out where you can dine on the best of the best, check out our list of Newcastle’s finest restaurants.
And it looks like all the best food is up north. Out of all the 50 cities surveyed by Which?, Bristol was the only large city south of Manchester to get four stars. Perhaps surprisingly, London scored just three stars.
