The ‘brilliant’ award-winning teen ranked among the UK’s best young mathematicians
Chadwell Heath Academy’s Yahya Undre will be taking part in the Junior Kangaroo Challenge after excelling in the UK Maths Trust’s Junior Maths Challenge.
Yahya was the school’s first ever pupil to get a certificate of merit, after gaining 103 marks out of 135 in the test.

A school spokesperson said: “This is a first for Chadwell Heath, and a huge well done goes to our brilliant mathematician, Yahya, for doing so well.”
The year nine pupil was also the only child at Chadwell Heath Academy to achieve the gold award, meaning he places in the top ten per cent of participants nationally.
The challenge took place before the summer holidays and 60 pupils from the school’s year nine cohort took part.
