Alvaro Morata will captain Spain in this final, and the Atletico Madrid striker will know all about what he and his team-mates are coming up against too.

The 31-year-old made 72 appearances during a two-year spell at Premier League side Chelsea, from 2017 to 2019.

Ahead of today’s final, Morata told UEFA:

💬 “I can’t even begin to describe what it would mean for me to captain Spain to winning this Euros.

“We have lots of respect for England, as a country and a footballing side. They are one of the great names in history. They’ve had legendary footballers and the Premier League is one of the best in the world.

“When you’re there, they want you to play full-on and enjoy yourself. I’ve only got good words for England, for the Premier League and for a friend like Kieran Trippier — plus I have other good relationships with players in their squad. We respect each other.

“It’s a final and I know they’ll say the same. It’s respect, it’s football and we are two great national sides.”
