Norfolk beach named among top five in UK for winter walk

Chris Haslam, chief travel writer at The Times, named Holkham beach among the best winter beaches in the UK.

Known for its seemingly endless miles of golden sands, picturesque pine forest and dramatic skies, the beach is no stranger to accolades.

Sitting in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Holkham is dog-friendly all year round, with a dogs-on-leads policy from April to August, and home to a national nature reserve.

Mr Haslam said: “On a crisp winter afternoon, the vast sands of Holkham in Norfolk backed by a break of pines, littered with razor and oyster shells and lapped by a tired sea are somehow more satisfying than they could ever be than when trampled by the summer crowds.”

The other beaches that made the list were Bamburgh in Northumberland, Chesil in Dorset, Dungeness in Kent and Marloes Sands in Pembrokeshire.
