Man dies and two in hospital after crash on major motorway

A man died in a crash on the M25 this morning between Brentwood and Epping in Essex.

The road was closed anti-clockwise between J28 (for the A12, near Brentwood) and J27 (for the M11, near Epping), National Highways said. The incident occurred before junction 27, for the M11.

As a result of the incident and closure, traffic built up throughout today, with traffic reporting system INRIX speaking of a four-mile queue. Drivers were urged to avoid the area where possible, and National Highways put a diversion in place.

Despite the work of paramedics, a 68-year-old man died at the scene and two others were taken to hospital.
