Listen to the highlights from Day 1 below.
In Wrexham this morning, Zoe Ball sent him on his way for this epic challenge, and he arrived in Preston during Jo Whiley’s show.
Paddy couldn’t leave Wales without hearing from a true Welsh choir, and the Rhos Male Voice Choir didn’t disappoint, treating us all to a rendition of Survivor’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’. An apt choice to motivate Paddy for the long day ahead.

Early on in the day he received a well-needed message of support from cycling legend Chris Hoy.
Quote MessageThis will be five relentless days over brutal terrain, but when it gets really tough just remember why you’re doing this. You’re doing this to inspire the nation. You’re doing this for Children in Need. And we’re all behind you.

The sun was shining and spirits were high as Paddy crossed over from The Wirral into Liverpool via the Mersey ferry.
It wouldn’t be a trip to Liverpool without a nod to The Beatles. Led by Miss Beechy, sixty 7-8 year-old school children gave Paddy a truly Liverpudlian welcome by singing The Fab Four’s Yellow Submarine.

Sara Cox had the pleasure of breaking the news that with every 50 miles under his belt, Radio 2 would play Black Lace’s Agadoo.
It was the perfect soundtrack while Paddy finished his dinner of pie, mash, and lashings of gravy.

The pie and mash powered Paddy on through to finish up in Moor Park, Preston in front of the hundreds of people who had turned up to welcome him to his final stop of the day.
Thanks to all of the amazing Radio 2 listeners, he has raised a whopping £155,727 so far.
He’s a very happy man.
But now – it’s time to get a good night’s sleep before he sets off tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s destination – Kendal. Which means one thing… hills. And lots of them.
Tune in to Zoe Ball’s show tomorrow from 6:30am to follow his progress!
