Coastal town ranked among best in UK for ‘entertainment-filled’ staycation
A coastal Suffolk town has been ranked among the top 10 in the country for an ‘entertainment-filled’ staycation.
OBLG created its ‘Holiday Entertainment Index’ to profile the best destinations for a visit this summer, considering a range of factors including the number of activities per location, cost of a stay, average weather patterns and the number of pubs and restaurants.
Southwold took a joint fifth-place on the list alongside Swanage, bested only by New Brighton, Lyme Regis, St Ives and Tenby.
It was also regarded as having the highest density of pubs by population, with 11.6 per 1,000 people.
Venues such as the Sole Bay Inn, Lord Nelson and the Harbour Inn were noted by OBLG.
Its high number of restaurants was also commended, with 32.6 per 1,000 people.
Of this, OBLG said: “Given its coastal location, Southwold is famous for its seafood.
“Many restaurants feature fresh, locally sourced fish and shellfish, providing diners with an authentic taste of the sea.”
Finally, Southwold topped the standings for its highest density of museums, with 5.6 per 1,000 people.
The index used information from Tripadvisor, Google and Kayak to inform its rankings.
A YouGov survey indicated three-quarters of Brits plan to holiday domestically this year.
