British Airways is axing all flights from one of the UK’s ‘best’ airports

Southampton airport is quietly one of the UK’s best air hubs. In a recent ranking by consumer choice company Which?, Southampton got a coveted ‘recommended’ label, getting praise for its short queues and cheery staff, described as ‘small and friendly, with minimal queues’.

If you’re a regular user of Southampton airport (or planning on using the hub for your next getaway), we have unfortunate news. From next summer, British Airways is suspending all routes from Southampton.

BA said in a statement it would be ‘suspending our summer 2025 operations from Southampton Airport’, not detailing exactly why. The carrier previously offered weekend flights throughout summer to destinations like Dublin, Malaga, Majorca, Faro and Bergerac. BA says that customers impacted by the cancelled routes will be contacted for refunds or to be rebooked on alternative flights.

A spokesperson from Southampton Airport said: ‘Clearly it’s disappointing when any route is removed.

‘However, we are in constant dialogue with airlines regarding the introduction of new services and that includes backfilling the routes withdrawn by British Airways.’

Worry not, Sotonians – there are plenty of other carriers that still fly from the airport. The likes of easyJet, Aer Lingus, KLM and Tui still offer flights to places like Spain, Portugal, Poland and the Netherlands from the south coast hub.
