6 places in Suffolk named among best to live in UK in 2024

The last 12 months have proven another fantastic year for the county which was crowned by Lonely Planet as one of the best regions to visit in 2025.

So here is a round up of the six places named the best to live in 2024.

1- Woodbridge 

Woodbridge is a vibrant and pretty town surrounded by the Suffolk countryside.

It was included in a list compiled by expert property finders at Garrington as one of the best places to live in the UK. 

But to top off 2024, the town was named the happiest place to live in the UK

Visitors, residents and business owners in a Suffolk market town centre said its shops and closeness to river help make it the happiest and “perfect” place to live.

2- Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh is no stranger to accolades as a go to spot on the East Suffolk coast. 

It to was included in the list compiled by Garrington when it revealed its best places to live in the UK. 

Aldeburgh has been named one of the best places for a last minute break and is known for its award-winning fish and chips and cultural heritage.

3- Halesworth

Halesworth has a strong history having been built upon a Roman settlement and has a number of interesting buildings. 

It received a nod on The Sunday Times’ best places to live list which said the town was “rapidly gaining cultural and culinary currency, and the underrated town has England’s largest millennium green”.

4- Southwold 

Southwold has repeatedly been named one of the best beaches in England and this year by Time Out, which described it as “glorious.” 

The beach has also been featured in Netflix film, JOY- The Birth of IVF.

5-Bury St Edmunds 

Bury St Edmunds was listed as one of the 16 best market towns in the UK by the Daily Mail. 

It also secured the title of most dog friendly town after being recognised for going the extra mile for dog owners and their pets. 

The town has around 140 shops, eateries, places to stay and attractions have signed up to a dog-friendly scheme – distinguishable by a blue paw print logo sticker in the window and a water bowl. 

Bury St Edmunds was also named among Britain’s best high streets by the Telegraph securing the number four spot.

6-Shotely Peninsula

The Shotley Peninsula in the south of the county is made up of villages such as Shotley, Pin Mill, Chelmondiston and Holbrook. 

It was recently featured in a prestigious list by The Sunday Times of the best places to live in the UK and was also included in the list in 2021.
