The best cheap restaurants in London according to the UK’s top chefs
Michelin-starred chefs from all parts of the UK have had their say including Alex Dilling, Sameer Taneja and Judy Joo to name just a few of the top chefs.
To help you plan your next meal out, the chefs have revealed their favourite restaurants for a meal that costs less than £40 for two.

London’s best cheap restaurants according to Michelin chefs
Notto, Piccadilly Circus
If you’re looking for a spot in Piccadilly Circus, two Michelin-starred chef Alex Dilling from Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal on Regent Street recommends Notto in Piccadilly Circus.
Notto is a pasta bar that is self-described as the “ultimate pasta experience” as chef Alex shares: “Main courses are all under £20. Michelin-star chef Phil Howard is behind it and his cooking technique comes through even in these casual dishes. I also love Bancone for pasta.”
Kati Roll Company in Soho
Executive chef of one-starred Indian restaurant Benares in Mayfair, Sameer Taneja suggests Kati Roll Company in Soho as the perfect spot for a cheap meal.
Chef Sameer shares: “My go-to eatery for Kolkata-inspired meat and vegetable wraps that are absolutely delicious.
“My wife and I have been regular visitors since before our kids were born, and I have fond memories of this little place.
“It’s always a treat to enjoy their excellent spicy wraps, a bottle of beer, and good old Bollywood music.”
Trejo’s Tacos, Notting Hill
If you like the taste of Mexican food, then TV chef and restaurateur at Seoul Bird, Judy Joo recommends Trejo’s Tacos in Notting Hill.
Trejo’s Tacos was created and founded by actor Danny Trejo with the Notting Hill location marking the first restaurant outside of North America.
Sharing why she likes Trejo’s Tacos, chef Judy says: “My usual order includes a plate of Baja fish and spicy shrimp tacos, dosed in their house hot sauce and perfectly complemented by one of their stellar O.G. margaritas or homemade horchata.
“I also love their house-made guacamole and salsa served with their truly addictive freshly fried corn tortilla chips.”
Saint George Cafe, Chelsea and Charing Cross
Saint George Cafe is recommended by chef Benjamin Ferra Y Castell from the Michelin-starred Pavillon.
The French bakery offers sandwiches all made from high-quality products as chef Benjamin shares: “Their bread is made by a French baker with a specially selected flour.
“The pastries are also amazing – using high-quality butter and the chocolate used in the pain au chocolate makes it one of my best sweet treats in the city.
“On top of all of this, their coffee is some of the best in London.”
