Autumnal Norfolk walk named among Britain’s best

The leaves are changing and the crisp autumn air is upon us, inspiring many to brave the cold and venture out for a countryside stroll.

To mark the changing season The Times has chosen its 20 best walks not to be missed this season, with Blickling Hall and the River Bure getting in the mix.

The seven-mile trail weaves around the Jacobean hall into rural north Norfolk and follows segments of the River Bure.

Along the way the walk passes by the county estates lake, Great Wood and The Buckinghamshire Arms before returning to the grand home.

Along the route there is a chance to take small detour to see the weird and wonderful pyramid mausoleum of the second Earl of Buckinghamshire.

Mr Somerville gave a specific mention its “pepper-pot turrets, curly Dutch gables and huge central clock, in the beautiful north Norfolk countryside”.

The estate is run and managed by the National Trust and with the park being open daily form “dawn until dusk”.
