Birmingham’s Christmas Market crowned best in UK for second year in a row

The annual Frankfurt Christmas Market sees over five million people every year descend on the city for what is the largest German Christmas market outside of Germany.

The news was revealed in a report by retailer Christmas Tree World, which gave it a score of 7.86/10 from analysts.

The score was based on factors such as popularity, ease of transport access, most affordable accommodation and longevity.

This year, the Birmingham Christmas Market will run from November 1 to December 24.

Iconic German wooden huts selling a whole host of traditional gifts and delicious food and drink will take over New Street and Victoria Square.

Close behind Birmingham in the poll was Edinburgh Christmas Markets, which was awarded the silver spot, and Manchester, which came in third in the rankings.

As one of the longest-running Christmas markets in the country, Birmingham will yet again be the place to be this Christmas.

Becky Frall, Head of Tourism at Visit Birmingham, said: “The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market has been one of the centrepieces of the West Midlands’ festive calendar for more than two decades, with the city centre’s streets alive with the colours, scents and sounds of the season.

“With the market again being voted number one by Christmas Tree World, and as many as five million people visiting from all over the country, it is fantastic to see that it remains as popular as ever.

“Birmingham and the West Midlands is a magical place at Christmas – we encourage everyone to come and enjoy the region’s great shopping, fabulous theatre shows and the special events at our many family-friendly attractions.”
