Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine’s restaurant has been named one of the UK’s top casual dining spots by Tripadvisor. The travel company unveiled its Traveller’s Choice Awards Best of the Best Restaurants list for 2024, honouring reviewers’ favourite eateries across a range of categories, such as best casual dining and best quick bite venue.

The awards highlight the best places worldwide in each category, along with separate lists for each country. This year’s awards also introduced new categories for the best pet-friendly restaurant and the most sustainable.

Makars Gourmet Mash Bar in Edinburgh claimed the top spot in the Casual Dining UK category, but Annies in Manchester made it into the top ten. Located on Old Bank Street in the city centre, the gastropub and bar, which secured eighth place, is co-owned by Jennie McAlpine, famed for her portrayal of Fiz Brown in Coronation Street since 2001, and her partner Chris Farr.

In what might be a nod to the ITV soap, Annies also offers a traditional hot pot featuring lamb and crispy potatoes. They’re also notable for their inclusivity, catering to gluten-free and vegan patrons.

Meanwhile, a beautiful gem in Lancashire’s Ribble Valley countryside has received worldwide status. Northcote, based in Langho, has been named as the UK’s best fine dining restaurant, and third in the world in Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Restaurants awards.
