Times Good University Guide brings latest 2025 league table success for Liverpool – University of Liverpool News

The University of Liverpool has climbed the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide by six places in its 2025 ranking, placing it second in the North West and 23rd of 134 institutions nationally.

Published today (20 September 2024), the guide provides prospective students and their families with the right information to make an informed choice about their higher education, evaluating everything from satisfaction with teaching quality and the student experience through to degree completion rates and graduate employment prospects.

A number of University subjects were ranked in the guide, with 12 featuring in the top ten: Veterinary Medicine (1st), Accounting & Finance (10th), Animal Science (4th), Architecture (7th), Physiotherapy (6th), Chemistry (8th), Radiography (5th), Pharmacology & Pharmacy (10th), German (5th), Town and Country Planning and Landscape (7th), Anatomy & Physiology (10th) and Dentistry (9th).

Professor Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Liverpool said: “With the announcement of the latest Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide I am delighted to see the University continue its upward trajectory across a number of important league tables this year. I’m proud of all the colleagues working hard towards the University’s continued success.”

Helen Davies, editor of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, said: “The best universities — whether they were founded in the 15th century or 2005 — are local and global powerhouses of intellectual thought and creativity, from the arts to science, that can power economic regeneration and lead the way to a better life. But what and where to study — and how to pay for it — has never been tougher. This is where our comprehensive guide can help.”

The University has also performed well in other recently published league tables, including a nine place rise in the 2025 Guardian University Guide, placing 27th overall in the UK and second overall in the North West, and in the Daily Mail University Guide for 2025 it retained its 25th position in the ranking of 129 UK Universities.

The University also ranked 19th in the 2025 Complete University Guide, representing an improvement of five places on last year and the University’s highest ever position in the table.
