‘Venice of The Cotswolds’ named one of UK’s best staycations

The ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ is a top pick for lovebirds in the UK looking for a romantic staycation without the hustle and bustle. The picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water, with its stunning views and perfect picnic spots by the river, has been named one of the most romantic road trips for couples by car experts at LeaseCar.uk.

The journey to this charming village takes you through beautiful rolling countryside and quaint villages filled with honey-coloured stone houses – the perfect setting for a romantic drive.

A 45-mile circular route from Broadway includes a grand stately home, several typical Cotswold hill villages, a river and of course, Bourton-on-the-Water itself. While it’s possible to complete the trip in two hours, it’s recommended to take a full day to enjoy the country lanes and stop regularly to admire the view.

Most of the journey uses small ‘B’ roads and single track roads with passing places. Even during the busy summer tourist season, these roads remain relatively quiet.

Once in Bourton-on-the-Water, couples can enjoy two particularly romantic activities. On a visit to the Cotswold Perfumery, tourists can learn how to create your own fragrant love potion at a 56 year old institution that once made a scent for the late Queen.

The Model Railway Exhibition is a real treat with over 500 square feet of track. It’s one of the top motorised model villages in the country. Watch the tiny trains zoom around the countryside, mountains, streams, factories, and little towns.

Bourton-on-the-Water is so lovely, it’s called the Venice of The Cotswolds. It’s a favourite place for couples to visit for a nice day out.

“Often referred to as the Venice of The Cotswolds due to its loving atmosphere and scenic views, it’s a popular spot for couples across Britain to visit after coming off the A429. You can enjoy a picnic by the river or have a coffee at the local cafe for a peaceful afternoon trip,” says LeaseCar.

Castle Combe is a small village that’s famous for its pretty houses and twisty streets and it’s easy to visit on a road trip in the region.

Charlbury in Oxfordshire is another beautiful place with great food and views. It’s known for festivals and pubs lately. Famous people like David Beckham and Rowan Williams are known to hang out there.

Toby Shadow, who was in The Long Shadow, grew up there. Jeremy Clarkson‘s farm isn’t far and the pubs use his farm’s food.

Another charming place is Chalford, a town where the main road is lined by stone cottages with steep offshoot higgledy-piggledy pathways which make it more suitable for donkeys than humans.
