Donald Trump did not bring up Lord Cameron’s past criticisms of him during their recent meeting at Mar-a-Lago, the Foreign Secretary has revealed. 

Mr Trump and Lord Cameron met in Florida earlier this month for talks. 

The Foreign Secretary had previously described Mr Trump’s “Muslim ban” travel policy when he was US president as “divisive, stupid and wrong” and the man himself as “protectionist, xenophobic, misogynistic”.

Asked what the meeting was like, Lord Cameron told Sky News: “Well, I am a diplomat now, so it is different. I am glad that I had the meeting. It is very much in line with the work foreign secretaries and prime ministers do, we meet leaders of the opposition in other countries, we meet potential future presidents.”

Asked if Mr Trump had brought up his past comments, Lord Cameron initially refused to be drawn as he said: “I am not going to comment on the meeting.” 

Kay Burley, the Sky News presenter, suggested that meant Mr Trump had indeed raised the comments. 

Lord Cameron replied: “No, he didn’t actually, if you are going to go down that route. It was a good meeting.”
